The UKHab & BNG Platform #3: Working with baseline data using the records table

In this user guide, we’ll take a look at how to navigate the records table and its features when working with baseline data. The records table contains a list of all of your records in tabular format. It includes several columns which show key data from the record, along with additional options.

  • You can toggle the visibility of the table by pressing the arrow button on the top left corner of the table.

When you select a habitat on the map the corresponding record in this list is highlighted. This works in the opposite direction as well, if you click a record in the list the map will zoom and centre on the record you have selected.

Columns

Should you wish to fine tune your Records Table you can show or hide columns.

  • Click the blue cog icon in the top right corner of the table

A window will open showing toggles for each column header. By default these are all toggled to be visible in the table.

  • Click the toggles to hide/show the columns
  • Click the blue ‘save’ button to confirm your choices

Naming Records

Each record is automatically assigned a unique survey id upon creation. However, you might want to give features specific labels to help identify them or link them back to e.g. client plans. You are able to assign names to your records within the ‘Feature Name’ column.

  • Click in the white space below the ‘Feature Name’ column of the record you wish to name
  • Type your chosen name and press Enter to finalise.
  • You can also use the Tab key to enter data and rapidly progress through all the records when adding names in bulk.

Strategic Significance

You can assign strategic significance to your records within the The UKHab & BNG Platform either singly or in bulk.

To assign significance to a singular record:

  • Click the drop down menu below the ‘Strategic Significance’ column of the record you wish to assign significance to.
  • Select the correct value from the list.

To assign significance to multiple records at once:

  • Select multiple records using Shift, or, use the Select all records button.
  • Click the “Select significance” drop down menu in the tool bar, above the records table
  • Select the correct value from the list

Metric units will be automatically adjusted based on the selected strategic significance.

Additional Options

There are additional options found in the Records Table.

The blue ‘Details’ button: This button will open the Record Details page, which provides an in depth look at the habitat feature. (To find out more about the record details page see this user guide.)

The red ‘Bin’ icon: This will delete your record.

  • Click the bin icon.
  • Click the red ‘Delete’ button in the confirmation window to confirm.

The ‘Recorder’ Icon:  This will show who submitted the record when the cursor is hovering over the icon

With that the Records table basics are covered. Next we’ll tackle the records details page.
