The UKHab & BNG Platform – Copying Quadrats
Adding Quadrats to your UKHab records can sometimes be quite time consuming, especially when the species compositions of those quadrats are quite similar. Thankfully through record duplication you can speed this process up by copying your quadrats and then editing them after the fact.
To begin with locate a record which contains a completed quadrat or create a new quadrat from scratch (for a walkthrough on how to do this check out our UKHab survey walkthrough). Once you have selected your record:
- Tap the ‘three dots‘ icon in the upper right corner of your screen.

- Then select ‘Edit Record’ from the dropdown.

You are now editing your UKHab record. Scroll down to he ‘Quad/linear section’ question and locate the quadrat you wish to duplicate. Then:
- Tap the ‘Clone record’ icon, depicted by two overlapping sheets.

The record and all data contained within are now duplicated.

Now you’ll need to differentiate your duplicate quadrat from the original:
- Tap the new, duplicate quadrat record.
- Change any data that needs to be differentiated in the initial screen e.g. ‘Quadrat or Linear Section number’.
- Tap ‘Next’ when done.

You will need to move the point feature denoting your cloned quadrats new location.

- Move your cursor to the new location you wish your quadrat to be.
- Tap the blue button in the bottom right corner to drop the new point

- Tap ‘Next’ when done.
Now you can edit your species list:
- To remove species from the list simply tap the red ‘x’ next to the species record you with to delete.

You can also edit your existing species records and change data such as the cover abundance or any notes attached to the species record. Tap on the record to open it and make your changes, press ‘Done’ when finished.

Finally you can add new species to your list by tapping the ‘Add Species’ box.

When you’ve finished duplicating your quadrats and making your changes tap ‘Save and Sync’ in the record summary page to update your habitat record.
