Coreo familiarisation
All areas and settings of a project can be accessed via the Coreo sidebar. All elements are grouped under named headers to make them easy to find.

Project
Under the ‘Project’ header you will see the following options:
- Project Overview
- All Records
Project Overview
The project overview shows you an ‘at a glance’ summary of your project, including a list of your recently added records and of your project members.
All Records
The ‘All Records’ page is where you will visualise and interact with your data. It has a map and a records list. You can examine your records in detail here as well as edit and delete them.
Build
Under the ‘Build’ header you will see the following options:
- Forms
- Collections
- Pages
- Maps & Boundaries
- App Styling
Forms

The Forms page is where you go to build the actual data collection part/s of your project. Forms are constructed using blocks which are functional elements which you drag and drop into your form and simply configure. This means you don’t need to know any code in order to build your data collection forms. We’ll be getting more familiar with the form builder later on.
Collections
Another critical concept in Coreo is that of collections. These come in two main types – simple lists of things you wish to use in Coreo to populate form fields (e.g. items you want to choose from a drop down list) and content on pages (e.g. a reference guide), or geospatial boundaries.
You can create collections directly in Coreo or import them from external sources such as .csv files.
Pages
This is the tab where you will create the individual pages that you want in your project, such as a welcome page, a reference guide, general info page and so on. Pages are built in one of two ways:
- Using prebuilt page templates to very rapidly build complex pages like reference guides
- Using a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor to build custom pages.
Both of these options make it easy to put pages together without using any code. We’ll look at this in more detail later.
Maps & Boundaries
This page will allow you to customise your project map. There are three options found under Maps & Boundaries:
- Custom: Here you can add custom map layers which you can use as reference layers in your project options including raster images, shapefiles and heatmaps.
- Forms: Here you can customise the appearance of your geospatial data on your map, by changing the colour of your geometries for example.
- Bounds: Here you can set up bounds for your project, either by importing an existing shapefile or by creating your bounds from scratch using the provided geometry tools.
Styling

Coreo allows you to add your own logo to your project and to customise the colour scheme.
- To add a logo to your project click the Project Icon and navigate to the location of the course files you have just downloaded.
We have created a folder of files for you to use for the Tropical Frog project for familiarisation purposes – you can download them here.
- Upload the icon-512px.jpg file
- Select the Save styles button at the top right
Project Setup
The General Settings section contains just three elements:
- Project Members
- Project Settings
- Record Status Settings
Project Members
The project members page allows you to add users from your organisation to your project and to provide those users with project roles.
Project Settings
Project Settings provides you with the option to edit your project’s name and description at any time.
Record Status Settings
Coreo allows records to be assigned a status. Examples might be ‘Correct’, ‘Pending review’ or ‘In progress’. This is useful in many different situations including for managing a data workflow or for flagging records as having been checked and accepted by a moderator. The Record Status page allows you to customise the statuses used for your records. If the default options don’t suit you, edit the existing options and/or use the ‘[Create New State]’ button to set up a system that works for your project.
