Creating an offline map in the Coreo app
If you need to work with maps offline, or just want the reassurance that you won’t get caught out with no signal, then the Offline Maps feature is simple to use – just remember to set it up before you go out on site!
Note: Due to licensing restrictions, maps are only stored for 30 days, and if you are a Bing maps subscriber, these can’t be saved for offline use due to Microsoft’s terms and conditions.
There are two options for accessing the Offline Maps feature.
- Via the Coreo app menu

- Via the Map Settings

You have now reached the Offline Maps page, you’ll notice a simple explainer walking through how to save your first offline map. To begin making offline maps:

- Select the “Create an Offline Map” button.
Before you can start downloading maps you will now be shown a help modal explaining the differences between the two different types of offline map you can download – dynamic maps and static maps. Once you’ve read this, close the the modal to begin downloading your maps.

Should you need to refer to the offline maps help again simply tap the blue “i” icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen to open it.

If you wish to change the base map that you capture, use the Layer Switcher icon and choose the correct base map style.

Creating a Static Map
For large geographic areas you will be able to save a static map. These maps contain just a single image, meaning the resolution of the image will not change if you zoom in on the map. To save a static map:
- Navigate to the area you wish to capture. (Note: that any existing saved areas will be shown with a dotted line, this applies to static maps as well.)
- Zoom to adjust the area you wish to save. (Note: at smaller geographic scales dynamic maps will become available at a particular zoom level.)
- When happy with your area tap the “Download Static Map” button

- Finally, give your newly created static map a name and then select “Save Map“

Creating a Dynamic Map
For smaller, more detailed areas such as a survey site, it will be possible to save a dynamic map – or a series of them (e.g. side by side). A dynamic map will allow you to zoom in and out of your offline map as if you were using a live (online) map (Note: Dynamic maps have a max zoom level of 16, after which you will experience loss of quality when zooming in. ) To create a dynamic map follow the steps outlined below:
- Navigate to the area you wish to capture. (Note: that any existing saved areas will be shown with a dotted line, this applies to static maps as well. Use these guides to capture larger survey areas in sequence.)
- Zoom in until the blue “Download Dynamic Map” button becomes active instead of the “Download Static Map” button.
- When happy click the “Download Dynamic Map” button

- Finally, give your newly created map a name and then select “Save Map“

Once you have saved your maps you’ll see them downloading in the Offline maps home screen. The offline maps page also shows you whether your map is Static or Dynamic.

If you wish to delete your maps:
- Tap the ‘Edit’ button in the upper right of the offline maps home screen

- Select the maps you wish to delete using the radio buttons on the left hand side.

- Tap the ‘Delete Selected’ button in the bottom right hand corner to delete the map.
